Defining company values is easy. However, implementing those values into your work and living them every single day is a different story. Here at Franco, we take our values seriously and strive to exemplify them each day.
One of Franco’s core values, and one of my personal favorites, is opportunity. In the hustle and bustle of everyday work, it can be hard to look toward the future, and opportunity can become difficult to prioritize. In this post, we’ll go over what opportunity means to Franco, why it’s so important to prioritize opportunity in the workplace and how your organization can implement opportunity.
How Franco provides and encourages opportunity
At Franco, we define opportunity as a company culture and environment that supports and inspires employee and client development. There are specific attributes we think illustrate this value, including:
- Taking on responsibility
- Demonstrating competency/skill in subject matter
- Life-long learning
- Having a positive attitude
- Being tenacious, motivated and going above and beyond
- Having excellent interpersonal skills
There are many things we do at Franco to encourage opportunity. Professional development is important to us. We frequently hold To Be Franc sessions, where subject matter experts discuss with us a specific topic like media relations or digital advertising trends. This dedicated time allows our team members to cross-share insights, develop new skills and/or sharpen existing strengths.
Encouraging opportunity in the workplace is crucial for company and employee growth
Your organization cannot grow and prosper unless your employees grow and prosper. Prioritizing opportunity at your organization can:
- Lead to employee professional development: The stronger your team is, the stronger your organization can become. By prioritizing and encouraging opportunity at your organization you are signaling to your team that you want them to be the best they can be. This environment motivates employees to not only fulfill their basic job requirements but also seek out opportunities to go above and beyond.
- Set the tone for a positive work environment: We view a positive attitude as a huge component of opportunity. Negative employees can take a toll on the rest of the team. By encouraging opportunity at your organization, you are fostering a positive attitude among the team. People are more motivated in a positive environment and will be more likely to seek out new responsibilities and growth.
- Define team members as subject matter experts: By encouraging your team to seek out opportunity, it allows them to discover and enhance areas of expertise. Defining subject matter experts within your team is extremely valuable, allowing the whole team to work more effectively.
How to prioritize opportunity in your organization
- Dedicate specific time to professional development. When you are going through the day trying to check task after task off your to do list, it can be difficult to prioritize opportunity. That’s why we think it’s important to set aside dedicated time where your team focuses solely on opportunity. This way you ensure the development of your team.
- Set the example from top down: When exemplifying values it’s important the leaders defining organizational values practice what they preach. In my opinion, that’s one of the best things about Franco. Our leadership team exemplifies our values every. single. day. When the team sees our values being lived by leadership, it encourages us to also live by them and shows us exactly how to do that.
- Reflect, reflect, reflect: Your employees are your organization’s strongest asset. They know your organizational culture better than anyone. Utilize them and seek their feedback to determine if opportunity is being demonstrated at the organization. Make sure you actively listen to your employees and consider how you can put their feedback into play at your organization. You should revisit your values as frequently as possible to ensure they are still being practiced at your organization and consider what needs to change if they’re not.
Thanks to opportunity, the Franco team is constantly evolving. Learn more about working at Franco.
