As PR pros, we email and meet with media every day for our clients, but rarely get to sit down with them and talk one-on-one. This week, the Franco team met with Jessica Lundy, TV20 host and on-air personality, to find out how we can work together as media and public relations professionals.
Jessica started as the host of TV20 Detroit in December after attending an open casting call and going on to win the contest against 1,200 other applicants. She now hosts the segment In and Around the D, for the station.
Jessica gave us her perspective on the relationship between media and PR, specifically for events. Here are her best five pieces of advice for PR pros:
How should we pitch events to media?
You should make every event sound exciting and special – focus on the live entertainment, special guests, hors d’ oeuvres – like an event that anyone would like to go to.
What is an extra hook that gets you interested in an event?
We always look for exclusive stories or access that no one else has, whether it’s backstage access or fun opportunities for Facebook Live or Snapchat.
When is the best time to pitch an event?
About 2 weeks in advance of the event. Then send a follow up a week before the event.
How can we help you at events?
At events, I love when the PR person tells me a plan of action: where to go, who to talk to, the things I need to see and if there’s anything worth staying for so I don’t miss anything. Sending us links to additional video footage and good photos also make life easier on the producer.
What do you love from PR people?
If you make take the time to get to know us and see what we like, you’ll make a lasting impression on the whole team. We remember the groups that make an effort.
